Football in the South…

While in AL, I attended my first ever college football game with
Colton and Katelynn, Byron and Capers Whatley, LauraAnn, Daniel and
David Bond and Conner Knapp.  Now, I like football. It is great fun to
watch. In NM we went to high-school football games quite often, but I
had no idea what it was like to go to a college football game. It
was quite the experience! Auburn got creamed by Arkanas (which was
great fun to tease the Whatley’s about not that I did that, of
course. I think it was Byron who was threatening to give me four flat
tires on my car. ). Really though it was a lot of fun and a great
cultural experience. I also learned something… while at the game we
were quite a ways off the field and could not see details very well.
From where we were it looked like the refs made some really bad calls.
After we got home, we were talking to our parents about it (who stayed
in the nice cool house, on a nice comfortable couch and watched it on a
big TV and didn’t pay $4 for a bottle of water ) and they were
saying that they could see up close because the camera was there by the
field.  They told us that in reality all the calls made were legitimate
and that watching from different angles they could see it from a
different perspective than we could.  Even though we were there and
watching it live, they had a different angle. How many times do we jump
to conclusions before we really know what is going on? We think that we
can see clearly and make a judgement based on what we can see. I think
that a lot of times we need to step back and look at it from another
perspective and angle. My minister in the church where I grew up
preached a sermon once about dully-noting and  dismissing people. He
said that we will look at the appearance of someone or something they
are doing and dismiss them without another thought.  God calls us to
see the heart as Jesus did. Remember the story about the women who just
put two mites in (Mark 12:41-44), it was such a small amount, but Jesus
was looking at the heart. In the right perspective it was more than all
the others gold because it was all she had. To someone looking on it
might have seemed cheap, but to someone who knew the situation it was
far from cheap. Things are not always what they appear (I think that is
a Bill Jack quote ).
I wish I had some pictures to show you, but all of us forgot to take a camera…

Here is one I found on the web.

It was a lot of fun. Thank you, Whatleys, for a great time and a great weekend!

You picked a good game to go to. Auburn was something like #2 I think, and that put them all the way out of the top 10.

    Good application, too. Real good.

yeah… college football can be a lot of fun to watch – sounds like you found it fun 🙂 I also know about the $4/water concession prices – I used to sell food/drinks at football games. It was a wonderful fundraiser. 😀 Love ya!

I must need to attend a college football game!

Hey! We also attended the HSLDA conference and i noticed you had visited my site, so I wanted to stop by and say hi! I don’t remember actually meeting you, there were so many there. That conference was such a blessing!…

That is an interesting point…why we need God’s wisdom so much for life.

    God bless!

Thanks for the comment! How many years have you been going to these conferences? This was my first year. Our family was sent as delegates of the homeschool organization under HSLDA for NH…CHENH (Christian Home Educators of NH). What state did y’all represent?

Ah yes.  Auburn football.  The (almost) ultimate cultural experience.  (The ultimate would be the Auburn-Alabama game, of course!)  I’m glad you liked college football, and I’m glad Auburn got trounced!   But I’m sad I missed the fun!

Football… Never got the sport. Then again I don’t even watch the sports I like to play. 🙂

Hum… I never went to a Football game either.

Sounds like it was a good time.

Kind-a funny how you can see things better by staying farther away. 🙂

Sounds like a good time . . . but I think I’ve become partial to “futbol” games . . . hehe.  I do like watching college football on tv, and I have particularly enjoyed watching Auburn play in the past, though now it’s pretty much Notre Dame.  (I think my son has some influence in this area . . . I watch what he puts on.)  But I’m not too willing to go out and get cold and maybe wet . . . and pay $2.25 for a BAD cup of coffee . . . anywhere except a soccer game.

What a good analogy about the calls you saw at the game and the same exact ones your parents saw, and yet what different perspectives!  That is so true in our Christian walk, and I am sure I am frequently guilty of that.  I hope to remember this, and think differently, even  when I’m *sure* I know what’s going on.

Thanks, Trina, for this post . . . and for all you do.

You are so right…we MUST get together soon. I’ve almost called you so many times here recently, but every time I think of it, it is either WAY too early, or quite late into the night. You know, sadly I have never been to a college football game either. Always wanted too… anyways, sounded like a blast and glad you got to visit with your family. We need to get together….seriously! Sounds like a lot of fun!  🙂  While I don’t know most of them, it sounds like a great group of people to go to a football game with! Nice analogy on perspective btw.  Very good.  We’ll I’ve been thinking about ‘cha – I’m glad you have a blog. 🙂

That song was by MercyMe. I love it, and they are one of my favorite, if not most favorite, Christian band ever. Their lyrics are just beautiful. And that song described my mood yesterday very well. One of my friend’s mother just had her 11th child, and it was born one month premature, with Down’s Syndrome and a heart defect. I feel rather helpless here in Georgia (they live in Colorado). If you happen to think of them or me, say a prayer, for Strength and Hope. I do not understand the Lord’s timing, but according to the scriptures, it is perfect.

    Miss you!

Dry Canyon, and there was nobody on the little bench you drive through on your way up to the hang-glider jump-off spot.

And I guess there’s not a whole lot of use in arguing with God’s call on your life…Jonah tried that, and he got et.
