Is worry just a reality of life or is there a way not to worry?

That was the question on the top of the sermon notes I found Saturday morning as I was going through some stuff in my house, cleaning and putting away.

They were titled ‘You don’t have to worry! Matthew 6:25-34’.
The date – April 2005.
The minister – Ray Young
1. You have to choose worry or meditation!
    a. Worry comes from fear of the unknown – it’s always negative
    b. How many of our worries are blown out of proportion and never happen?
    c. Meditation is remembering what God has promised!
    d. Meditation is remembering what God has done! (remember my post about Psalm 107? Think God is trying to tell me something? ;))
    e. Every good gift is from God! James 1
2. Remember how much your Father loves you!
    a. What kind of Father is God?
        -God is good
-He knows what you need and what is best
-He is willing and able to provide
3. The best cure for worry is FOCUS!
    a. A focus and a passion for the King and His Kingdom
    b. Keeping first things first
    c. A commitment to not worry
    d. Beyond commitment – God must be our burning desire
—–

That hit a little close to home for me…then right after that I found a quote from a different Minister at a different time with some scripture next to it. God always seems to work that way. He is so faithful!!!

Here was the quote:
“The secret to maintaining joy is remembering that God has a purpose. When things are not going the way I think they should, God is either working to change my circumstances or God is working to change me through my circumstances.”
I think that sometimes it is both at the same time.
Romans 8:28 and Hebrews 12:1-2.

Not only are we not supposed to worry about our circumstances we are supposed to have joy because God does have a purpose! He commands us to not worry (Matt. 6:25-34) just like He commands us to not
steal, lie, murder etc. Yet we always seem to think that command is not
as important or at least I have.
Wow. It was convicting!

I think I will choose meditation over worry, what about you?

PS. I will try to make my next post shorter… I see a pattern of long posts here. Sorry, my readers. I did want to share these thoughts though. Shorter one next time I promise!

If your’re gonna post that good of posts, then I’d just as soon you made them long, myself. It’s like a good, long sermon: it may go a little past noon, and it may take a little more effort to digest, but it’s more than worth the extra time in the end.

Good post . . . and I, too, choose meditation over worry.  I’ve never heard it compared that way, but it makes so much sense.  Thanks for sharing!

The problem here, dear Trina, is not that you’ve been posting unusually long posts lately, but that you haven’t usually posted such nice long posts before!   I’d be happy if you made this the new norm!  Like Mrs. B, I’ve never heard worry and meditation contrasted like that, but it does make sense.  It is a daily, moment-by-moment decision, though!

My Grandma used to say that “…worry is faith in the devil.” i.e. It’s believing that God is not good for what He promised.

    PS

Great post! Going along with what Nathanael commented, I’ve heard it said that “fear and worry is the result of not trusting God.” Putting it that way is really convicting!

Great post Trina.  Yes, worring…anxiety… hits home for me too especially this past week. Thanks for the great notes there.  I have had to make myself just plan, prepare, pray, do what I need to do on my part, and TRUST God with the rest.  I like your long posts – they are good posts.  I miss you. Headed this way anytime soon???  (I know…just thought I’d ask…)
