I really like the decision-making guide your friend shared. I agree, it is about the principle, about whether something is wise or not, not about making up laws. I heard a definition of legalism recently which I thought was helpful: “Making manmade rules to safeguard God-given rules.” Did you realize Eve did that? God said not to EAT the fruit, but she told the serpent they weren’t to TOUCH it. God didn’t say that! She added it on to what God actually said, in order to safeguard herself from being tempted to eat it. Of course, it didn’t help in the end!
